“Everyone is gifted. But most people never open their package.” – Unknown
Have you ever met a person who just seemed to be gifted in a certain area? Maybe you’ve studied under a person with a gift for teaching, or you’ve listened to someone with a gift for music. Gifted means a person’s ability is exceptional. It means that person has a special skill that many of us do not possess.
Yet no matter how gifted an individual is in a particular area, rarely, if ever, will one individual be exceptional in every area of life. No matter how good the surgeon may be, he still must depend on other people to fix his car or paint his wife’s portrait. This is no less true within the church.
A friend of mine recently took a job in another country, and he believed that God wanted him to give his minivan to the church for Kingdom use rather than sell it to strangers. Not only did his action serve as a huge blessing to others, the timing couldn’t have been better. Chris is not gifted in every area of his life, but he excels in the areas of giving and service.
Any gift that’s left unopened or is disregarded is useless. God gives us specific gifts (both Spiritual and physical) as the primary avenue for Him to use us in His world to bless others and to glorify Him. Every Christian should watch for opportunities to bless others, to use their gifts as a blessing and an encouragement to others regardless of where their location. Even the newest Christian can serve others.
Also it is important to note that sometimes God allows us to experience disappointment only to teach us lessons that we could not learn in any other way. The way which we learn those lessons is not to deny the feelings but to find the meaning that is underlying such feelings.
Only God knows our destinies and what He has deposited in us for the benefit of others. He knows the end from the beginning; the only thing we must do is that we should believe in Him, and in ourselves too. It is within us the power to reach our brighter tomorrow, individually and collectively as one!
If each individual would use their unique gifts and talents received to serve mankind, God’s gift and grace would overshadow this beautiful world and healing in every form will be autonomous. In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain peculiar things well.
Here in the US and all over the world God has gifted His people with such great gifts but many have no idea what they have. How do we open our gifts or packages? It’s rather simple, we have to seek, knock and find for it to work for our own good and thus for the good of mankind as told in Matthew 7:7-12 . Every creature — all the way down to crawling ants is — is purposed to bless and make this universe a better place one way or the other but how do you find and open your package embedded within you?
Listen to your gifts
I’ve never liked math. Whenever I come within five feet of a math problem, I break out in hives. Numbers have never been my thing and my guess is that they never will be because God created me with different gifts. Even though I can’t do math, I can write, paint, draw, sing and communicate well. These gifts are also road signs to where God is directing me.
Have you ever considered your talents and gifts? Do you get a kick out of soccer? Are you a strategic thinker? A great listener? Can you motivate others to action with your words? Are you skilled at building things? I suggest making a list of the things and activities that interest you in which you excel. You can also ask yourself, “What’s the one thing that I do better than others?” This can also clue you in to your God-given purpose.
The gifts God gives us are like little seeds planted inside us, but for them to grow we have to use them. This means that if you can’t identify which “Gift Seeds” God has given you, try doing new things that interest you. Through these new experiences, God will reveal more to you about who you are and how He has called you to serve Him and glorify Him in this world with your Gifts. What are you passionate about?
You Already Have It, Seek It and Find It and Use It
One fact we must all know is this: Every human being no matter the background is specially gifted to play a unique and valued role in the development of this world. No one is without gift or purpose.
You can look at gifts another way. Gifts are not our talents or skills. They are the grace of God at work within us, empowering us to match our deep passions with the world’s deep need. The gifts are given to individuals, but they are given to build and strengthen community and to meet the needs of those around us.
Begin the journey. Discover your gifts. Talk about your gifts with others. Strive together to understand your gifts and how you can use them to serve God, neighbor, and world. You have been gifted. You have been given a purpose, please use it.
